We took Isla out to breakfast for the first time last Sunday and plan to do it again tomorrow morning. We think breakfast and a trip to the park sounds like a fun day after a six day work week for Alex.
We go to a hole in the wall named Molly's in my hometown of San Juan Capistrano. It's a short 3 minute drive from where my dad and I once lived. My dad would wake me early or what I thought was early at the age of 18 and beg me to go to breakfast with him. You see my dad loved pancakes loaded with syrup and butter. I'd always go and always enjoy spending my mornings with him just chatting over pancakes.
It's hard for me to go to places where I used to go with my dad. I see him there and I hear his laugh. My dad was always laughing, always smiling. I was rocking Isla to sleep and thinking about breakfast with dad. I just know we'd all be going tomorrow if he was still here. I know he'd be waiting at a booth so excited to see Isla. He would be wearing jeans, a tucked in button down shirt and tennis shoes. He would eat his pancakes and laugh all morning long....Isla would make him laugh. Then I just know he would laugh at me anytime he would see me get flustered with Isla. That would be the best morning ever!
So tomorrow I will go to breakfast and think of him, hear his laugh and I will be missing him. What I wouldn't give for one more breakfast with my dad. I will cherish every breakfast with my family at that same little hole in the wall.
