18 month check up

Today was Isla's 18 month well check appt. We walked into the office and they gave me some paper work to fill out. It was an autism screening questionnaire and some developmental questions. She passed with flying colors. I was holding Isla while I filled it out and at the top I wrote "Isla".....Isla saw her name in all those words, pointed to her name and said "Isla" The receptionist was shocked.

They took us back to have Isla weighed and she was a champ. She usually cries when weighed and she was such a good girl....not one tear. She was 26lbs and in the 75 percentile and she was 34 inches long and in the 98 percentile. She has the tall genes that run on daddy's side.  While we waited for the doctor Isla ran around the room in her squeak shoes.

When the doctor came in Isla said "Where's blankie?" Dr. S. was very happy to hear her stringing words together. Isla showed off her climbing skills, listening skills and was talking up a storm. Dr. S. is so good with her, I feel so lucky to have her as Isla's doctor.

Then came the most dreaded part of the visit. Dr. S. had to listen to her heart. After she was finished she wanted to make sure we were going back to her heart doctor in November. I told her we were and then asked if she still heard it? She did and it breaks my heart. I know that if this doesn't go away by 2 or 2 and a half we may have to take action. I can't even type the word. The tiny holes in her heart are not the problem it’s the pulmonary stenosis. I try not to think about it and just deal with it as it comes....appointment to appointment. We'll find out more in 3 months and hopefully we'll have good news.

The doctor talked to us about potty training. She said it was a good idea to take it slow. Introduce the potty, let her watch me go potty, praise her and make it sound like the best thing ever when she even sits on the potty clothed. She told me it happens when it happens and not to push it. I agreed 100% and felt good about the conversation.

When the visit was over it was time for the shots. Isla hates shots!! She cries to the point where she is hyperventilating. The nurse had her sit on the exam table while I held her hand. Isla was able to watch the shots go in and Not. One. Tear!!! WHAT? The nurse was shocked, I was shocked! I think the fact that she saw what happen made it easier for her. The nurse handed her a sucker.....her first one and a sticker. She loved that sucker and chewed on it the entire ride home. When we were almost home I heard her laughing....she ripped off her little Band-Aids and found it hilarious. What a silly girl.
First Sucker

Dr. S. was very happy with Isla's development and even commented on how smart she was. Well we already knew that! ;) Overall it was a great visit and I just had to jot it all down for the blogging world.

I hope everyone's having a great Thursday.
