Potty training adventures

I took the plunge! I think I might have waited longer if I didn't have another baby on the way. I don't like change, I don't like being "stuck" at home and I don't like unpredictability. I was hesitant and really thought I'd give up on the first day.

I kept her in her diaper until breakfast.....after breakfast the diaper came off and we had naked time. We watched more TV then I liked but it kept her booty planted in her potty seat. We colored, sang songs, read books and drank lots of water. I knew I had to make the water more appealing so I added a splash of lemonade in her big girl cup and she was all over it.

We have tile floors so I let her play while I did my workout DVD and kept prompting her to "go potty." I felt like I was training Wally (our dog) all over again. Finally she went about an hour after the diaper came off.....Whooooooo! Let the party, yelling and singing begin! Every time she went in the potty she got 4 mini M&M's and a sticker for her sticker chart. She loved both so much and has become so proud of those stickers.

It's been 90F during this process so I decided to take her to our community pool that's just steps from the house. I had to break up the tension. I have no idea if she stayed dry but when we came home she POOPED in her potty!!! This was huge so she got 2 stickers and 5 mini M&M's!!!

I haven't looked back since. She had one accident while playing in the backyard on that first day and one accident yesterday but that was totally our fault so it doesn't count.

I never thought it would be so easy. She has now trained her bladder and can hold her pee and poop when we're out if she chooses. I also keep her potty chair in the hatch of my car for parking lot potty trips as we come and go. Another lifesaver is taking the little insert out of her potty chair and putting it in the beach bag or stroller for when we have a big day out, it works like a charm and I don't have to worry about finding a potty quickly.

She picked out her big girl undies at Target last week and she loves wearing the underwear she picked out. She's down to one M&M when she goes potty and sometimes doesn't even ask for her treat. I keep her in her overnight diapers at night because she pees way too much all night long to have that taken away yet. The moment she gets up she wants them off, she wants her new big girl underwear.

I'm so proud of my girl and I'm so happy this was a smooth transition before baby #2 makes his grand entrance. I know we may have set backs and I'm guessing they'll come when her baby brother arrives but I know she has the concept down and I can't help but feel really happy about that. This girl always amazes me!
