My new normal

Life with a toddler and a newborn is in full swing. Life is busy but wonderful at the same time. I manage to live off of little sleep and manage to get out of the house every day. I have Isla in music class; we walk to the park, go to Starbucks, the Library or meet friends.  I think getting out every day keeps me sane. Some days I feel like I’m totally in control and some days I want to wave the white flag and hide in the corner. I really only find myself getting blue if I’m sleep deprived and on the nights that I just can’t take it Alex takes over…..he’s been amazing.
Liam is the sweetest little guy, I’m so in love. I was so scared to have a boy but I’m so happy I have one. It’s amazing having one of each and getting to experience both. He’s so alert and so full of life. He loves to smile, coo and watch you. He loves looking at Isla. He loves bath time, his play mat and going for walks. He is so laid back…..very different from his sister at this age. Some nights he’ll sleep a 6 hour block and some nights he’s up every two. It’s okay though, I just remind myself that he’s still figuring it all out and he’s still very little. On the sleepless nights I dream of my morning coffee….thank god for coffee!  At his last checkup he was just over 12lbs and 24 inches long, I’m sure he’s bigger now!  He’s our big man but he feels small to me, Isla was bigger at this age.
The most handsome little man I know!
Walks make her happy and I love seeing her happy!
When did she grow up?
If you ask Isla if she likes having a brother some days she will shrug and might even say no but most days she will shake her head yes. Some days she is so rough with him and other days she is so loving and sweet. I can’t imagine what has gone through her mind since he’s come into our lives. I try so hard to have special time with her and I think that’s been the hardest part for me. I feel like I’m always juggling, always trying to give all of me to both of them at the same time. Mommy guilt really kills me but it’s getting easier. I’m learning to let it go, I’m trying not to be super mom. Instead of mopping the floor I’ll read to Isla and instead of prepping a fancy dinner I’ll cuddle Liam…..I’m working on it.

My sweet babies! This is an old one but a favorite of mine!

I’m finding a routine and trying to get back into shape…..thankfully the kids like jogging with mommy. I thought it would be harder to get back into running but it’s not too bad. I think the hardest part is getting used to pushing more weight in the stroller. And things jiggle in places that never jiggled before; my stomach was stretched to the max carrying an almost 11lb baby. Getting back into shape won’t be easy but I’m going to do it!
Let's run!

Confession time, I will sometimes pass a mirror and cry. I will cry over something so stupid but I can’t help it. I worked my ass off to get into shape before I got pregnant and I want it back. I’m really hoping by Liam’s first birthday I will have my confidence and body back.
Sometimes if I really think about it I’ll remember how simple life was with just one. Seriously everything was easier but I wouldn’t change a thing. I’m finding our new normal and it’s just fun! I’m so in love with my little family and I feel so whole, so complete. I never knew I could love another child like I loved my sweet Isla. My heart grew bigger and I’m a mom of TWO! It’s an exhausting journey full of joy!

Little Flirt!
